On March 25, Wednesday, The Department of Labor and Employment DOLE announced that they will be providing cash assistance of $200 or P10,000 to all overseas Filipino workers whose work was affected by the contagious coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic.
In his statement, Labor Secretary Silvestre Belo III said that the government is doing its best to discuss and meet the needs of affected OFWs in this global health crisis.
“The Department of Labor and Employment is doing its best to address the immediate needs of our displaced workers and those belonging to the most vulnerable sectors during this period of emergency,” he stated.
“Similarly, we have crafted an assistance program for our OFWs whose works were disrupted due to the Covid 19-pandemic. We are looking at about 70,000 OFWs who will be provided with (USD200) in cash assistance each,” added Labor Secretary Belo III.
How to avail?
To avail of the said program, OFWs are required to submit their certificate of employment to POLO office. OFWs are also advised to get in touch with POLO in their host country and get in touch with OWWA regional office if they’re currently in the Philippines.
Countries lock down
As we all know, most countries now are on lockdown in the fight with curbing the numbers of people affected by Covid-19 and there’s no way that OFWs will risk their life just to submit the COE in POLO office.
We are still on the lookout of any updates in regards to this cash assistance. We hope that gov’t will make a way of applications being made online or better yet, no requirements of COE anymore as they have their data already in OEC and OWWA membership, paid and required by POEA once the OFW is hired abroad.
