Amidst the COVID19 pandemic that’s been affecting almost all of the people in the world, one OFW took her life because of money problems.
In the Hong Kong news report, on April 21, the employer of the deceased OFW found her body hanging inside the bathroom. It was said that the OFW was overwhelmed with financial problems, the reason for her to end her life.
The OFW was not named but it’s mentioned that she’s a 44-year old woman, a Filipina, and working as a domestic helper.
“The deceased is a 44-year-old woman. She is a Filipina domestic worker,” the spokesman said on April 22. “Her boss, a 35-year-old woman, told the police she found her hanging inside the bathroom,” Hong Kong News.
The police deputy reported that they received a call at 9:15 pm, April 21. However, when they arrived at the employer’s residence at Tong Fong Tsuen in Yuen Long, it’s already too late, the domestic worker can be revived anymore.
They also said that they found a note at the scene which said that the reason for ending her life is a money problem.
“A note was found at the scene,” the police spokesman said. “The cause of the suicide is money problems. She is not happy anymore,” he added.
Nowadays, many Overseas Filipino Workers especially domestic helpers suffer from depression and are committing suicide. An eye-opener not only to the Philippine Government but to the people as well to be vigilant on the behavior of their friends.
If you feel that your friend needs emotional support and in need of professional help, don’t hesitate to ask help on their behalf.
Meanwhile, different bodies of the Philippine Government in Hong Kong encourage Overseas Filipino Workers who are in emotional distress or the ones who suffer depression to call the Philippine Consulate General at 9155-4023, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) at 5529-1880, or the POLO-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration at 6345-9324 and ask help.
