Vaness Rodel together with her seven-year her seven-year-old daughter Keana was granted asylum by the Canadian government. Rodel is among the group of individuals who helped ex CIA employee, Snowden. Rodel hides Snowden in her apartment while on the run from the USA government back in 2013.
To recall, Edward Snowden, an ex-employee of CIA and National Security Agency contractor went to Hongkong to hide after his leaks left the United States’ surveillance programs wide open.
This leak contains highly classified documents and exposed the existence of global surveillance programs run by the NSA in association with partners Australia, Britain and Canada.
Snowden was charged with espionage and stealing state secrets. He is now a citizen in Russia.
Meanwhile, the Refugees, a non-profit refugee rights association confirmed that Rodel and her daughter Keana were scheduled to arrive in Toronto Canada airport from Hong Kong this Monday.
Rodel and her daughter will then travel to Montreal on Tuesday to join other refugees sponsored by the private-sector group.
In addition, the asylum program was kept secret for security reasons, the group said.

Who can seek for Asylum?
An individual can seek asylum for several reasons.
- He or she has a reasonable fear of future persecution
- He or she is in risk to be forced to undergo torture if he or she are returned to their country of origin.
- This is due to race, religion, national origin, political opinion, or membership in a social group.
