Anne Akmad, a family of an Overseas Filipino Worker seeks help to locate her aunt who’s been missing for 17 long years.
According to Anne, her aunt, Mary Beth Tabañag Akmad went to Saudi Arabia to work as a domestic worker. She flew to Saudi last November 10, 2001, and has not received any news from her since then. Added that they have not received even a simple call nor money from her aunt that their connection completely stopped the moment she boarded the plane going to Saudi Arabia. Anne along with her family have no idea about what happened to their family members up to this time.
Many netizens are puzzled as to why Anne only posted this situation recently. However, Anne said that although they have not posted about her aunt’s situation on social media, they have not lacked in seeking help from the Philippine agencies, OWWA, POEA, etc. They even reported the situation to her aunt’s agency, MHHR MANPOWER RECRUITMENT PLACEMENT AGENCY, but got no action and the agency has been closed since the year 2017. The Philippine agencies also kept on telling them that they will follow-up on the situation but have not received any real actions from them.
Some also asked if her aunt is a TNT but Anne denied it and said that her aunt has complete legal documents before she went abroad.
To what really happened to Mary Beth Tabañag Akmad, we didn’t know. There’s a lot of theory around it but we can’t really tell what happened. Communications back in 2001 were very difficult than today. Mobile phones were already available in the market but not all can afford it, it is also not that popular at that time, and not considered as important, unlike today. Also, social media like Facebook at that time was not yet created. All in all, seeking help if your endangered at that time was very difficult. We can only hope and pray that Mary Beth Tabañag Akmad is safe.
