The best investment you can give yourself and your family is good health and exercise is one great option, especially for OFWs who spent most of their time sitting in their offices, not to mention those who are consuming junk foods.

Sickness in the family can drain finances, strain family relationships and give unnecessary stress. So, to stay away from sickness individuals need to eat healthily and exercise.

Committing to a type of exercise may be difficult, but if you find a workout best suited for your lifestyle and health needs you may be more successful in doing it regularly.

Here are some popular exercises in the Philippines:

Jogging

Jogging is a popular exercise because it does not cost much nor does it require you to enroll in a gym. As an aerobic exercise, it is good for cardiovascular fitness and can help in building strong bones and strengthening muscles. It also burns fat so it is a good exercise for those who want to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight.

For beginning joggers, consult your doctors first to check if your body is up to it. Once you get a go from your doctor, start with brisk walking for several weeks before jogging.

Yoga

Yoga is an ancient exercise that brings about the health of body and mind. Depending on the intensity and speed of the yoga, you can target areas of your body like arms, legs, core, and back. It can also help your flexibility and strength. It is a low impact exercise that won’t hurt your joints but still give you a full-body workout.

Yoga is for any age and can be done indoors and outdoors. Mild yoga is also a good exercise to complement more active exercises especially for people with “diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease” and even those with arthritis. It is still recommended for people with illnesses to see a doctor before doing any yoga poses.

Zumba

Is Yoga too boring for you? Then maybe you need to dance Zumba.

Zumba is a dance exercise that is “fast, upbeat and contagious.” Aside from burning fats and calories in your body this exercise helps you develop coordination not just with your left and right dancing feet but also for better body balance and overall body coordination you’ll need as you grow older.

It is also both an aerobic and anaerobic exercise so it helps your heart and builds your endurance as well.

Zumba is a social exercise, it is fun and it can be a good stress reliever after a day at work.

Triathlon

Do you like running, biking and swimming? How about doing them all as a triathlete.

Several local celebrities are hooked with this challenging exercise. Although being a triathlete will require more commitment and training than any of the first three mentioned, all triathletes will tell you that it is worth it.

Triathlon exercises are good for losing weight, toning muscles, reducing joint impact and avoiding overuse injury.

If you are interested, have your doctor’s consent and register yourself with one of the triathlon organizations in the country. Be ready for some expenses, extensive training and exciting experiences.

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

HIIT, also known as the Sprint Interval Training (SIT) is one of the number one choices of exercise for people who want to lose weight. A 30-minute exercise of alternate intense aerobic workout and less intense recovery periods does not only help make an individual’s “athletic capacity and condition” it also helps glucose metabolism of the body. Plus, you don’t need any equipment and you can do it anywhere.

CrossFit

This popular exercise combines elements of calisthenics, gymnastics, high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting and strongman. From this list, know that CrossFit is not meant for newbies and may suit athletes, former athletes better.

As the saying goes, health is wealth. Love your body and train regularly to become healthier, fitter and happier.
