Overseas Filipino Workers are considered as our modern heroes. This is because they don’t only help their families but the Philippines as well. And to commend their contribution to the growth of the Philippine economy, Duterte administration builds a free hospital for them. The groundbreaking of the said hospital already happened on May 1, 2019, at San Fernando, Pampanga.
Labor Undersecretary Ana Dione said the founding of the hospital and diagnostics center for workers is an idea of Secretary Silvestre Bello III. The hospital is meant to give free services for the Overseas Filipino Workers along with their families and dependents.
“This is the concept of our Secretary Bello. This will provide our OFWs and their dependents free hospital and other medical services,” Dione said.
In addition, Dione said that the hospital will provide free laboratory exam and required medical certificates for qualified workers.
“The hospital will be exclusively for OFWs and their dependents. The plan is to provide them with free services when securing their medical certificates, covering laboratory exams and other basic requirements for their overseas deployment. We hope that this will also be honored by the host countries so we expect a quite extensive negotiation on this,” Dione added.
Finances of the hospital will come from donations and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), with help from the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). Its construction is said to be completed in one and a half year. The place where the hospital will be built is a donation from the provincial government of Pampanga.
Construction is expected to be completed in one and a half to two years, following the requisite documentation. The property where the hospital will rise is a donation from the provincial government of Pampanga.
