A domestic worker in Saudi Arabia managed to escape from her abusive employers.
In a report by 24 Oras, the domestic worker, Nida Olivar from Lanao del Norte, reiterate her life-death situation with her employer.
According to Nida, she’s been working with her employer, a married couple in Abha Saudi Arabia, for three months when they started to abuse her physically.
The beating didn’t stop and gets worst as days passed. And last Feb. 7, 2020, Nida experienced a severe beating from both of her employer which ultimately prompted her to escape to save her life. Nida recalled that both of her employers got angry that day over a wet carpet.
And when the husband arrived home and knew of what happened he helped her wife in beating Nida.
“Ang inabot ko po sa kanya, suntok po, sampal, sipa, palo,” she said of the husband.
Only when both employers went inside their room that Nida finds a chance to escape. Thankfully, the Arab driver who found her sends her directly to Assir Central Hospital Abha.
Lack of evidence
Though the POEA now is continuously helping Nida and her family, it was mentioned that they were initially denied any help.
Since last Sept. 2019, the husband has been informed of Nida’s situation and been asking for help from his wife’s recruitment agency. However, the agency disregards their concern as they don’t have enough evidence for their claim. Also when the husband goes to POEA, he was repeatedly told to go back again.
