A Ugandan domestic worker is told to pay AED880,000 worth of money that she took from her employers.
The Dubai Criminal Court also sentenced her to spend a year in prison and to be deported thereafter.
According to the court, she stole AED760,000, $50,000 (AED183,650) and 3,000 Kuwaiti Dinars (AED36,425) or a total of almost AED1 million ($217,800).
The 26-year-old woman denied the accusations, but she was convicted.
This case occurred in September 2020, as she was still working for her Lebanese boss.
It is not the first time the maid did this, as she was caught stealing money from them in March.
The couple kept the key to their bedroom, where they hid a large amount of money.
However, the maid still figured out a way to get hold of the key, stole the money, and left the next morning.
One of her employers said that she saw that the maid was carrying a bag with her, but she didn’t suspect anything until the next morning when they discovered that their money was missing.
They contacted and asked the police for help.
It was in October 2019 that the maid was arrested.
During the interrogation, she confessed to her crime and revealed that she transferred the money to a man who had agreed to smuggle her out of the country.
Regrettably, her friend couldn’t find a way out of here.
